The Udzungwa Mountain park is known for its abundance of birds and mammal wildlife.It is most famous for the eleven different primate species, bird life and one of three remaining sites that support Savaqnnah Elephants in a mountainous environment.  Kokoa Kamili works with approx. 3,000 small shareholder farmers and pays a premium-well above the market price for wet beans.  Kokoa Kamili can produce more consistent higher quality cocoa beans and reduce the workload along with a greater compensation to the farmers. KOKOA KAMILI FERMENTERY was founded by Brian LoBue and Simran Bindra, who have backgrounds in international development throughout eastern and southern Africa. Prior to the Kokoa Kamili Cooperative, one single buyer dominated the area.  A sole buyer meant it had the power to set the price for the cocoa and farmers had little alternatives. Historically, farmers in the Kilombero Valley received some of the lowest prices for cocoa in the country. In Kokoa Kamili’s first year alone Kilombero farmers received the highest prices in Tanzania for their cocoa.

All of our chocolate is made with just cocoa beans and sugar; no added cocoa butter, lecithin, or vanilla. Our chocolate is free of soy, dairy, eggs, and gluten.
